What the hell is that OS?

I just found something interesting. A whole new OS! Honestly, this is my first time heard the weird name: SkyOS. Wholly cow!

The first glance on the Wholly new OS, I believe that it is a special Linux Distro. But after a while, I find something familiar, but very strange, ...er...ng..., what familiar? what strange?

OK, so, you know dll, right? Sure, that stuff belongs to Microsoft Windows;
you know .exe, right? You're kidding? I use this almost everyday.
you know gcc, right? Sure, it's cross-plantform, but originally from *nix(Linux and UNIX);
you know "/boot/blur..blur..blur.."(*) form path? Yes. It's UNIX!
Oh, seems that you know a lot. But it's still not so different from a *nix + WINE system. But if I tell you, I also find some .app, what do you think? Oh no, you're kidding, it's impossible! .apps just can be found on a mac plantform which have a darwin-like kernel...

Nop, I'm just telling the truth. If you don't believe, you can visit their website to find out.

According to their FAQs, SkyOS is an OS which stats from scratch. It's NOT a linux distrobution, NOT GPL-licensed (kernel code only), NOT open source, NOT free, NOT available for download, right now, and maybe in the future. It's highly POSIX compatible, but NOT 100%.It does NOT use X-window, but their own, SkyGI, with a KDE-like icon-set.(That reminds me of the Kylin OS, which steals the FreeBSD kernel code. It also use a KDE-like icon set, under Gnome, but not SkyGI. )

See pics and movies about that OS here.

Here is a screenshot. To give you a first impression on this WEIRD operating system, very much like a linux distro, isn't it. ah~~(Because they're Gtk+ apps. ):

(* It seems like all it's .app programs resident in /boot/system/program/ directory.)
